This smoothie is a beautiful medley of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, blended together with Greek yogurt and a berry juice.
When given the choice between fruits or vegetables, I will always choose fruits. Is it because they are usually sweeter and more closely resemble desserts? Probably.
With the new year upon us, it's time to remind ourselves that eating healthy is important. Not that it isn't important any other time of the year...but you know. Thanksgiving's main goal is to make you so full you never want to eat a feast like that again. Then a month later, Christmas dinner. Even midway through February, chocolates...chocolates everywhere! You get my drift.
I love berries. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries. When blueberries are in season, I love those too. I've even eaten a handful of mystery berries straight from my aunt's neighbor's tree once. (Spoiler: they weren't poison berries) Are cherries berries? If so, I recently found out I really like those, too.
This smoothie is a beautiful medley of strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, blended together with Greek yogurt and a berry juice. I know V8 isn't necessarily 'clean' or '100% natural', so you could absolutely substitute this juice with something a little healthier--unsweetened almond milk, coconut water, maybe even a pomegranate juice.
It's the middle of winter in New Jersey, so our blueberries are certainly not in season. I can't wait for summer when the berries are freshly picked. There's something about buying local fresh berries that makes you feel like you're enjoying some of the earth's greatest gifts to humankind. (Don't even get me started on how much I love vegetable gardens!) Until then, I'll have to settle on frozen berries.
The flavor of the berries is a little intense, so this could absolutely stand up to a handful of spinach for health! The color may change slightly, but the sweetness should remain. Using frozen berries gives the smoothie a thicker consistency without having to water it down using crushed ice.

Wow! This is such a beautiful recipe. I love strawberry smoothies with a passion. Being from the Northeast as well, I feel you on the winter struggle. I can't wait for berry picking season. To answer your question, cherries are a stone fruit, which are in the same family with peaches and nectarines; although, scientists in some lab are probably trying to Genetically Modify cherries and strawberries. Dun, dun, dun! Putting the smoothie in a Ball jar just makes it that much more adorable! 🙂

Ah, thanks, Erin! I figured cherries weren't berries, and thank you for the helpful lesson on fruits!

Fruits over veggies any day! My favorite smoothie combination would be strawberry, mango, pineapples, and bananas. Happy Saturday, Jessica 🙂
