Can you think of a more iconic cookie than the OREO? 😍
As a little kid, I loved when my mom brought home a package of OREO cookies. My sisters and I would happily pour ourselves full glasses of milk and dig into the package, doling out a few cookies per person.
I was a notorious dunker but hated getting my fingers messy, so I would suspend an OREO on a spoon into the milk until it was perfectly softened and ready to eat. Then after I was done snacking I would have the perfectly speckled OREO milk to slurp down. Talk about nostalgia!
You know what's great about OREOs? They are great at innovating and creating new flavors while still offering the same old classics we have come to know and love. I was forever and always a classic lover, with a package of Double Stuf thrown in here and there. I recently had OREO Thins and was surprised at how much I liked them! And let's not talk about how delicious the OREO Milka Bar is was. (It was so good I'm going to need to go back to Walmart and buy more, ha!)
Our local Walmart had a fully stocked wall as well as an in-store demo to taste their new products. Did someone say free cookies? You don't have to tell me twice 😂
Without further ado, I bring to you my unique creation! There was previously a Chocolate Strawberry flavor with chocolate and strawberry filling, but this cookie is a chocolate covered OREO Thin stuffed with a thinly sliced strawberry and then covered in a layer of melted chocolate. It's basically guaranteed to be delicious.
As a little bit of backstory, on our first Valentine's Day together, my boyfriend (now almost HUSBAND!!) made me homemade chocolate covered strawberries. I knew he was the one because he understood how seriously I take my desserts. VERY seriously, in case you were wondering.
To achieve this DIY version of what I hope will be a winning OREO flavor, simply:
- separate two halves of an OREO Thin
- slice a strawberry
- insert a thin berry slice in between the two cookies
- cover in melted chocolate and chill until hardened.
I left the strawberry leaves intact for photograph purposes only. I'm sure these would also be great with dried strawberries as opposed to fresh.
Take a peek at your local Walmart to see what flavors are already offered - I was surprised to see a Cinnamon Bun flavor! Then, come on back and let me know what your crazy flavor creation is!! I can't wait to hear what you come up with!
