This 5 Ingredient Homemade Taco Seasoning is perfect to replace that store bought stuff. No funky ingredients that you can’t pronounce - just perfectly blended spices!
So I wasn’t sure if this recipe needed its own post, but I refer to it enough that I should probably give it its own little spot on my site. Instead of scrolling most of the way through my Healthier Turkey Nachos post to find the ingredients, I can reference this one in a pinch. You’d think by now I would have written it down on a post-it note and put it in our spice cabinet, but you know how that goes.
(Post-it stuck to inside of cabinet. Take down other ingredients for cake you are baking. Other ingredients knock post-it note off cabinet. Dog is naturally in kitchen during all of your cooking, so dog walks away with said post-it note in mouth. Dog shreds post-it note. Dog is cute, so you let it slide.)
How does everyone else keep their recipes organized? Do you use Pinterest or a plain old binder? An old school recipe box? Screenshots of recipes and instructions from blogs you know you’ll have a hard time finding later? <--- I do that one a lot. It makes it easier for me to find the ones I know I’m actually going to make later.
But anyhow, back to the taco seasoning. This recipe was actually born because while I do love to make most of my foods from scratch, I also love a good shortcut every now and then. However, when I went to reach for the trusty taco seasoning packet from the pantry, I realized we were all out and I had nothing but ranch packets and other packets that were definitely not taco seasoning packets. So, I did what any other sane person would do - I raided the spice rack and picked out spices that I knew were in taco seasoning and chose a blend that tasted good to me.
The best part about this homemade taco seasoning is that it’s fully customize-able. Do you love spicy foods? You can use a little extra cayenne. Don’t love paprika? Use a little less. These proportions are what I use most often, but I have been known to sprinkle a little bit of each and call it a day.
So there you have it, friends. A super simple recipe for taco seasoning with just 5 ingredients. Skip the store-bought stuff and be able to control all of the flavors you want and leave out the ones you don’t.
